Married 48 years to Terry Morris, Deborah is the mother of three adult children and grandmother of 10. The Morrises have been Garland residents since 1985.
One of America's leading writers of real-life rescue and survival stories, Deborah Morris has authored over 140 feature magazine articles and 15 books, including Trapped in a Cave! A True Story; the Real Kids, Real Adventures book series (adapted as an Emmy-nominated TV series on the Discovery Channel); Real Kids Real Adventures in Texas; and Teens 9-1-1. She also co-produced two reality-based television movies: "Dancing in the Dark" (Lifetime/1995) and "Angel Flight Down" (ABC/1996).
Morris grew up in a family of entrepreneurs and started her first business at age 11, running a lawn chair repair shop from her mother's used furniture store. As a young adult in the 1980's she built and eventually sold a specialty resume service in Research Triangle Park, NC, then founded and directed the international Writers' Roundtable Conferences in Dallas (1996 - 2001). She also managed her own writing and public speaking business throughout her lengthy writing career.
Deborah Morris was elected to the Garland City Council on May 5, 2018, and re-elected on November 3, 2020.
A Certified First Responder, Morris served as a local Disaster Team Leader with the American Red Cross. She was named Volunteer of the Year by the Dallas Red Cross. She also served on the First Aid Team of the Christian Motorcyclists Association. She served as president of the North East Garland Neighborhood Association (NEGNA) and served on the Building & Fire Codes Board in Garland. She continues to serve as a mentor to numerous young women in the community and to co-lead the prayer ministry at Antioch Lake Cities Church.
